IF YOU LIVED HERE

You'll be relishing the expertly appointed interior, with style lavished across every inch of your impeccably refined three storeys. From the striking frontage, wrap-around kitchen/diner to the striking colour palette, this is a home to fall in love with again and again. Let's begin in your sizeable 210 square foot lounge where a bay window outlines leafy views, period ceiling moulding flows overhead and a vintage fireplace sits in a Sacramento green statement wall. Next door the 145 square foot second reception's home to more handsome timber floorboards and a classic fireplace nestled in an Aegean blue chimney breast.

The layout is expertly-honed for hosting, with sliding doors throwing everything open to the dining area's delectable views over your south-facing rear garden. Folding floor to ceiling doors invite you to step out here for pristine patio, lush lawn and flourishing bamboo beds. Back inside and the kitchen's exposed brick walls, twin skylights and breakfast bar make for yet another delightful space in which to relax or entertain. Your bathroom's no less impressive. A jade herringbone rainfall shower, floating sink with gold Art Deco flourish and beautiful black wallpaper adorned with iridescent hummingbirds all make for a sublime space. You also have that 115 square foot cellar, suitable for all manner of uses.

Head up the stairs now and you'll find four sizeable bedrooms, the primary sleeper coming in at an impressive 240 square feet with a bay window and stately olive-hued wall. The bathroom up here's decked out in chessboard flooring, a clawfoot tub with brass fittings and more glorious exposed brickwork. Finally, your gracefully converted loft offers a 170 square foot double bedroom with a south-facing skylight for lashings of light, all laid open to the en suite with both a rainfall shower and a standalone tub. Ideal for bubble-bath chats while your significant other scrolls Kindle.

Outside and Woodgrange Park is three minutes' walk for the Gospel Oak to Barking line. If you fancy a day at the seaside stay on to Barking and a quick train swap will see you at the sandy climes of Southend-on-Sea within ninety minutes of stepping out your front door. Manor Park's a nine minute walk for the newly-opened Elizabeth Line and its swift, seventeen minute runs to Liverpool Street. a word from the expert......

"When I decided to move to Forest Gate a few years ago, I was drawn by the great housing stock, the green spaces of Wanstead Flats and the friendly, up-and-coming vibe of independent boutiques, eateries, and bars. On top of this, Crossrail is arriving here soon, which means getting across London will be even faster and easier. It really was a no brainer. I’ve spent many a happy weekend walking on the flats and in Wanstead Park. Often, I’ll finish up with an all-trimmings roast at The Holly Tree or meet friends for a drink at Burgess & Hall Wines (Roz and Paul there really know their grapes!). Or perhaps a fantastic curry from The Wanstead Kitchen. After living here for a while, you really start to feel happy and settled. I love the arty, independent feel of Forest Gate, and I get the impression I’m not the only one — it’s something all the locals nurture and support." JOSEPH EARNSHAW E7 BRANCH MANAGER

Our Local Guide:
Forest Gate

Windsor Road, Forest Gate — Stow Brothers

If you’ve already heard Chiwetel Ejiofor or Idris Elba proudly discussing their hometown, you probably don’t need us to convince you of Forest Gate’s merits, but for those who haven’t, let us catch you up…

With a heritage rooted in culture, it’s not surprising that Forest Gate has a strong creative community today. During just one week in the 60s, the Upper Cut Club music venue there hosted – deep breath – The Who, the Animals, the Spencer Davis Group, Geno Washington and Jimi Hendrix. These days you’re more likely to find the area’s artistic-types supping drinks in the cool cafes and bars. Along with the period property and proximity to green space, this independent scene has been the main draw for new arrivals to the area, although the fact that Forest Gate will be on the Crossrail’s Elizabeth line has definitely helped nudge people in the right direction.

Transport links

With trains running every ten minutes, the Overground can get you to Liverpool Street in 13 minutes. In the south, Plaistow is on the District and Hammersmith & City tube lines, and when Crossrail arrives, you’ll be able to get to Tottenham Court Road in just 17 minutes.

Great Pubs

Wine bars, gastro pubs, microbrews, traditional boozers… With so many drinking establishments in Forest Gate, taking ‘a trip to the local’ can be a tricky decision. Burgess Hall Wines, The Cider House, The Holly Tree and Forest Gate Tavern are just a few of the places to choose between.

Plenty of period property

Forest Gate has an abundance of Victorian housing, ranging from terraces in the area dubbed ‘Forest Gate Village’ to semis and detached in the Woodgrange Estate conservation area. Whether you’re after a doer-upper or recently renovated period property, there should be something for your budget.
