IF YOU LIVED HERE...

Coming home would make you smile. The house has great kerb appeal, with a painted brick façade and candy pink front door and, once inside, the stunning stripped wood floor and stylish painted stairs hint that this is no ordinary home. This property combines period features and vintage style with contemporary fixtures, fittings and décor and a sense of colour and flair that makes every room a delight.

The house is ideally set up for modern living, with a huge open plan main living space on the ground floor (and an amazing WC) and three bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. And there’s plentiful storage space, with built-in cupboards in most rooms and a cellar that also serves as a utility room.

The main living space, formerly two rooms, has lovely natural light from a sunny-south-facing bay window in the lounge area at the front and glazed double doors in the kitchen/diner at the rear. The decoration of this space is stunning. The flowers of the ceiling rose and cornicing have been individually painted, and the subtle pink and green are carried onto the walls, perfectly complementing the stripped wood floor. The lounge area flow seamlessly into the rear kitchen/diner which has a luxe cabin feel thanks to wall panelling and natural wood fitted floor cabinets. The green of the metro tiled splashback is echoed in the mural painted onto the back wall of the garden which is a low maintenance all weather space with a paved terrace and artificial turf.

Upstairs, the main bedroom is a serene space with two large south facing windows, an original fireplace, and twin bespoke built in wardrobes. The second double bedroom also has a bespoke built in cupboard and an original fireplace, and has great garden views. The third single bedroom is ideal for a child or guest, or for use as a workspace, and this too has built-in full height storage.

The bathroom has a contemporary shower bath, washbasin and WC, stylish grey wood panelling and white metro tiles, and great natural light and ventilation from an opening window. The loft above could potentially be converted to create more living space, as has been done elsewhere in the street.

a word from the expert...

"When I decided to move to Forest Gate a few years ago, I was drawn by the great housing stock, the green spaces of Wanstead Flats and the friendly, up-and-coming vibe of independent boutiques, eateries, and bars. I’ve spent many a happy weekend walking on the flats and in Wanstead Park. Often, I’ll finish up with an all-trimmings roast at The Holly Tree or perhaps a fantastic curry from The Wanstead Kitchen. After living here for a while, you really start to feel happy and settled. I love the arty, independent feel of Forest Gate, and I get the impression I’m not the only one — it’s something all the locals nurture and support." JOSEPH EARNSHAW E7 BRANCH MANAGER

Our Local Guide:
Forest Gate

Whyteville Road, Forest Gate — Stow Brothers

If you’ve already heard Chiwetel Ejiofor or Idris Elba proudly discussing their hometown, you probably don’t need us to convince you of Forest Gate’s merits, but for those who haven’t, let us catch you up…

With a heritage rooted in culture, it’s not surprising that Forest Gate has a strong creative community today. During just one week in the 60s, the Upper Cut Club music venue there hosted – deep breath – The Who, the Animals, the Spencer Davis Group, Geno Washington and Jimi Hendrix. These days you’re more likely to find the area’s artistic-types supping drinks in the cool cafes and bars. Along with the period property and proximity to green space, this independent scene has been the main draw for new arrivals to the area, although the fact that Forest Gate is now on the Crossrail’s Elizabeth line has definitely helped nudge people in the right direction.
