a word from the owner...

"We moved to Walthamstow in 2017 and have loved our time living in Thorpe Road. For young families there isn't a better place in London to live - there is so much going on every day, from playgroups at the Toy library, music classes at the Salvation Army, storytime at Wood Street Library and so much more - we are always able to find something to do with the kids. For long walks and bike rides we love going to Epping Forest - it's a 10-15 minute walk away -and it seems to be virtually endless as we always seem to find a new trail to explore. We have loved living in Thorpe Road partly due to the community; we have fantastic neighbours on both sides (on the left we have a family that have been there for 30+ years, and on the right we have another young family who moved into the road at the same time as us). We also know a number of other houses in the street - in fact including our house there is a run of seven houses where we know all the families and regularly chat and meet up with them.We spend a lot of our time in the cafes of Wood Street and Hoe Street; there are far too many now to mention but we have really loved the Bakery on Wood Street (check out the monkey bread!) and Ruttle and Rowe on Victoria Road (two minutes walk from the house) which has become a staple of our days in the last few years. Outdoor activities - Lloyd Park and the Town Hall are fantastic places to relax in the summer (and all year round). The playground at Lloyd Park is always a massive hit with the kids, the William Morris gallery/cafe is great to visit. The the recently redeveloped Town Hall now has water fountain displays throughout the summer for the kids to enjoy and get wet at! Nearby Chestnut fields is also being redeveloped into a more attractive destination with a lake (!) and so should be another great attraction in Walthamstow too. Walthamstow is incredibly well connected - there are regular buses to Walthamstow Central (you can also walk there in 15-20 minutes) and you can be in Oxford Circus in less than 20 minutes from the station. Wood Street Overground station is a 10-15 minute walk (or 5 minutes on the bus); from the station you can be in Liverpool Street in less than 20 mins. We will be extremely sad to leave Thorpe Road and have loved our time here; we hope that you will enjoy living here as much as we have done!"

Our Local Guide:
Walthamstow

Thorpe Road, Walthamstow — Stow Brothers

Situated on the edge of spacious Epping Forest, but every inch urban London, Walthamstow is one of those rare locations where you can have your (artisan) cake and eat it too.

Built from proper East End roots, the rapidly expanding community has transformed the area into a buzzy, creative hub and destination in its own right, making Walthamstow’s close proximity to central London less relevant than it perhaps once was (although if you must leave, it’s only a short hop on the Victoria line or London Overground). In fact, these days you’re more likely to see daytrippers coming into the area, keen to sample its varied offerings of food, drink, culture and green space. However, lucky locals get the added benefit of being part of a genuinely cheery community – and amongst the first to know about that latest hot new opening.
