a word from the owner...

"I have lived here since 1988 and have always loved my neighbourhood. I can cycle or walk over to Wanstead Flats and Wanstead Park within a few minutes and watch the sun go down, Epping Forest is nearby, as are Valentines Park and the Olympic Park with its Olympic swimming pool and the Velodrome cycle park. I can hop on the train at Woodgrange Park station (a few hundred yards) or Manor Park station (ten minutes) or take one of three buses (25, 86 and 425) outside my door. I am excited that the local council is building a safe cycle lane along Romford Road, to connect our neighbourhood all the way to Central London. My flat is bright and I think it is just the right size for a single person or a young couple starting off in life. My neighbours are lovely and peaceful and I think the whole estate gets on really well. I hope someone will love the local amenities as much as I have done. The Atherton Centre has a fantastic pool and weight training facilities, The local libraries are great, with IT facilities and staff who can show you the ropes. The local groups offer free cycling and walking events all year round. Newham also has some of the best schools in the country"

Our Local Guide:
Forest Gate

Tenbury Close, Forest Gate — Stow Brothers

If you’ve already heard Chiwetel Ejiofor or Idris Elba proudly discussing their hometown, you probably don’t need us to convince you of Forest Gate’s merits, but for those who haven’t, let us catch you up…

With a heritage rooted in culture, it’s not surprising that Forest Gate has a strong creative community today. During just one week in the 60s, the Upper Cut Club music venue there hosted – deep breath – The Who, the Animals, the Spencer Davis Group, Geno Washington and Jimi Hendrix. These days you’re more likely to find the area’s artistic-types supping drinks in the cool cafes and bars. Along with the period property and proximity to green space, this independent scene has been the main draw for new arrivals to the area, although the fact that Forest Gate is now on the Crossrail’s Elizabeth line has definitely helped nudge people in the right direction.
