a word from the owner...

"This has been my family home since birth. I've grown up in Forest Gate. Unlike most of the other houses on this street and in the area, this house has a cellar, part of this used to be a bomb shelter during the world war. That always fascinated me whilst growing up and has been a great conversation starter. The garden was always a happy place, having family barbecues and sitting outside and dining under the setting sun in summer was bliss. This has always been a happy home and it would be nice for someone else to enjoy the space and make new memories of their own and with their loved ones. Forest gate has a thriving community with a range of shops and plenty of amenities to cater for all. The coffee shops and restaurants under the railway arches have been my favourite as well as spending time at the weekend market on Woodgrange road. West ham park is really close by and was great to visit as a child and teenager. More than anything else, I really appreciated having Wanstead flats at my doorstep. At only a short walk away, it was a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of the city whilst still being in the city. Easy access to the Elizabeth line, overground, District and Hammersmith and City line meant that it was very easy to get around London and always have multiple travel routes, very well connected. Being able to get to Liverpool st within 15-20 minutes has always been a huge benefit and now even travelling to Heathrow is within an hour making it really handy."

Studley Road, Forest Gate — Stow Brothers

If you’ve already heard Chiwetel Ejiofor or Idris Elba proudly discussing their hometown, you probably don’t need us to convince you of Forest Gate’s merits, but for those who haven’t, let us catch you up…

With a heritage rooted in culture, it’s not surprising that Forest Gate has a strong creative community today. During just one week in the 60s, the Upper Cut Club music venue there hosted – deep breath – The Who, the Animals, the Spencer Davis Group, Geno Washington and Jimi Hendrix. These days you’re more likely to find the area’s artistic-types supping drinks in the cool cafes and bars. Along with the period property and proximity to green space, this independent scene has been the main draw for new arrivals to the area, although the fact that Forest Gate is now on the Crossrail’s Elizabeth line has definitely helped nudge people in the right direction.
