On the way there, stop off at the Ramble Cafe for a coffee and cinnamon bun, or stroll a bit further to Winchelsea Road, a thriving hub with some fantastic eateries located in the old railway arches. a word from the owner...

"I have resided in Forest Gate since 1982 educated here attended school, college and university in Newham. My kids have grown up and have been educated in Newham. Newham has lots to offer for the community and the parks - West Ham and Wanstead Park which are walking distance are excellent places if you want to relax and get away from work pressure. Cafes on Woodgrange Road and Upton Lane are local and good places to work in if working from home. My neighbours and people on the road are very friendly. The Elizabeth Line train at Forest Gate is a bonus and is a 7 minute walk from Studley Road, ideal for those who travel a lot or work in The City. Bus routes 25 and 86 to Westfield Stratford is approx. 5 minutes walk away from the property. Overall, a very convenient location with all needs close by."

Studley Road, Forest Gate — Stow Brothers

If you’ve already heard Chiwetel Ejiofor or Idris Elba proudly discussing their hometown, you probably don’t need us to convince you of Forest Gate’s merits, but for those who haven’t, let us catch you up…

With a heritage rooted in culture, it’s not surprising that Forest Gate has a strong creative community today. During just one week in the 60s, the Upper Cut Club music venue there hosted – deep breath – The Who, the Animals, the Spencer Davis Group, Geno Washington and Jimi Hendrix. These days you’re more likely to find the area’s artistic-types supping drinks in the cool cafes and bars. Along with the period property and proximity to green space, this independent scene has been the main draw for new arrivals to the area, although the fact that Forest Gate is now on the Crossrail’s Elizabeth line has definitely helped nudge people in the right direction.
