a word from the owner...

"This house is incredibly special to us. We have immensely enjoyed the journey of turning it from a scruffy badly laid out flat into a spacious, light, colourful place to make everyday living feel good. From the aspect of the house, close to the beauty of the redbrick St Barnabas Church to the quiet sleepiness of the terraced gardens, you couldn't ask for a nicer position on the street. The light in this flat is one of its best attributes - you get the sun blazing through the living room bay window in the morning and tracking through the house to light up the kitchen, bedroom and garden by midday, giving so many different moods and features within the property. Made all the better by the wide proportion of the rooms and the grand high ceilings. The garden has many rooms within it; the lovely patio that becomes a suntrap during the summer, the flower and vegetable beds off the kitchen to grow and plant delicious herbs and then the secret wild garden hidden by climbing jasmine and roses. We've deliberately kept the garden organic and wild, including a flower meadow that dies back during winter but springs to life every April/May with poppies, wild grass, cornflowers. The garden is filled with butterflies and bees throughout the spring and summer months and due to the number of trees and hedging we also have a large community of birds who visit us daily. The pear tree at the back of the garden is at least 80 years old, blooms splendidly in April and gives a plentiful harvest of fruit in August. Our studio, designed by our talented friend Zoe, is one of the gems we are very sad not to be taking with us!"

Our Local Guide:
Walthamstow

St. Barnabas Road, Walthamstow — Stow Brothers

Situated on the edge of spacious Epping Forest, but every inch urban London, Walthamstow is one of those rare locations where you can have your (artisan) cake and eat it too.

Built from proper East End roots, the rapidly expanding community has transformed the area into a buzzy, creative hub and destination in its own right, making Walthamstow’s close proximity to central London less relevant than it perhaps once was (although if you must leave, it’s only a short hop on the Victoria line or London Overground). In fact, these days you’re more likely to see daytrippers coming into the area, keen to sample its varied offerings of food, drink, culture and green space. However, lucky locals get the added benefit of being part of a genuinely cheery community – and amongst the first to know about that latest hot new opening.
