IF YOU LIVED HERE..

"The sense of space in this home is palpable; stand at the bay window in the front lounge and you have a vantage point right through the back reception and extended kitchen to your leafy garden. Sumptuous wooden flooring sweeps underfoot through this whole space, complimenting the neutral walls and architecturally clean lines. The artfully extended kitchen diner is finished to a high standard, with fully integrated appliances and spotlights dotted around the ceiling. Sleek jade green splashback tiles and a suite of white cabinets open out into the light drenched dining area. You will love the garden views from here, with sliding doors giving access to your outdoor space. Part decked, with flower-filled raised beds surrounding the lawn, you have a secret nestling at the bottom of the garden in the form of a garden office. This could provide a perfect home office retreat, built in 2020 by Garden Retreats, with air conditioning, heater and Wifi, also, a really lovely guest-room for visitors.
Upstairs and up the sweeping staircase you find two of your double bedrooms, both brilliantly appointed doubles, the real jewel on this floor is the tremendously stylish and roomy family bathroom. With bold wall colours and gleaming white wall tiles, you have a gloriously spacious walk-in shower with glass door and separate tub and honeycomb flooring. Up again to your third large bedroom, which has beautiful treetop views over the local area. You have some handy eaves storage up here, as well as a characteristically stylish room featuring painted floorboards. "

word from the owner...

"We moved to the Forest Gate to start our family. We selected it because of its transport links, green spaces and array of local cafes and pubs. However, we love living here for a lot more than that. Having Wanstead Flats on your doorstep is wonderful. Used for running, picnics, parties and walks (you can walk across to the beautiful Wanstead Park in 15mins or miles further up into Epping Forest without ever being on a road). It was great to discover an amazing local community here, so important when you have a young family. There are loads of great community events (Halloween, FG Festival, FG pride, Jumble Trail and numerous street parties throughout the summer). We'll be so sad to leave our lovely house. The place we watched our kids grow up and where we spend the majority of our time. Working in the garden office, enjoying the garden and fruit trees, or entertaining friends and family. While our house and FG is wonderful, the bit we'll miss most is the people on Ridley Road. Our neighbours really make our house feel like a home. We definitely feel like we've made friends for life."

Our Local Guide:

Ridley Road, Forest Gate — Stow Brothers

If you’ve already heard Chiwetel Ejiofor or Idris Elba proudly discussing their hometown, you probably don’t need us to convince you of Forest Gate’s merits, but for those who haven’t, let us catch you up…

With a heritage rooted in culture, it’s not surprising that Forest Gate has a strong creative community today. During just one week in the 60s, the Upper Cut Club music venue there hosted – deep breath – The Who, the Animals, the Spencer Davis Group, Geno Washington and Jimi Hendrix. These days you’re more likely to find the area’s artistic-types supping drinks in the cool cafes and bars. Along with the period property and proximity to green space, this independent scene has been the main draw for new arrivals to the area, although the fact that Forest Gate is now on the Crossrail’s Elizabeth line has definitely helped nudge people in the right direction.

Transport links

With trains running every ten minutes, the Overground can get you to Liverpool Street in 13 minutes. In the south, Plaistow is on the District and Hammersmith & City tube lines, and the Crossrail will get you to Tottenham Court Road in just 17 minutes.

Great Pubs

Wine bars, gastro pubs, microbrews, traditional boozers… With so many drinking establishments in Forest Gate, taking ‘a trip to the local’ can be a tricky decision. The CiderHouse, The Holly Tree and Forest Gate Tavern are just a few of the places to choose between.

Plenty of period property

Forest Gate has an abundance of Victorian housing, ranging from terraces in the area dubbed ‘Forest Gate Village’ to semis and detached in the Woodgrange Estate conservation area. Whether you’re after a doer-upper or recently renovated period property, there should be something for your budget.
