IF YOU LIVED HERE…

You'll be immediately enchanted by your handsome hallway, lovingly restored original timber floorboards stretch away, with clear sightlines to the huge rear kitchen. On your right is your front reception, the first in a pair of connected lounges. The vintage flooring flows on in here, complementing the exposed brick hearth, home to an ebony wood burner.

Stately grey walls give way to a blush peach paintjob as you move into the second space, a dedicated dining room bringing the floorspace so far to over 300 square feet and itself laid open to your tremendous kitchen. In here exposed canary yellow beams team with a bank of large skylights, oversized grey floor tiling and an exposed brick wall - all arranged around a large chef's island and breakfast bar - to create a wonderful mix of vintage modernity,

A wall of sliding patio doors let still more natural light flood in. Throw them back to open everything up to the garden, where patio gives way to a generous length of Tru lawn surrounded by railway sleeper beds and secluded by thriving screening greenery. Your ground floor's completed by a sumptuously finished spare WC, and plenty of extra storage space, not least in your 110 square foot cellar.

Upstairs, your principal sleeper is a substantial double of 140 square feet, with a full wall of floor to ceiling fitted wardrobes, deepest turquoise walls and a leafy garden view. To the rear your have another double sleeper, finished in cream with a vintage hearth. In between sits your family bathroom, a splendid affair with eggshell blue herringbone tiling surrounding the tub and a rainfall shower sitting above it. Finally you have another solid double sleeper and a generous single ideal for a child.

a word from the owners...

"This is a truly special house, nestled between a fantastic neighbourly community and the beautiful Kay Rowe nursery. You're a stone's throw from the station, taking you to liverpool street in 10 minutes, yet it can feel like you're in the middle of the countryside on this peaceful street. We have loved raising our children, hosting parties, being part of a beautiful community surrounded by friends and neighbours. Both children attended the nursery next door, followed by the local infant school and junior school. You can't walk out of the door without seeing a friendly face! The area has changed so much with restaurants, cafes, bars to enjoy, and always the peaceful Wanstead Flats and West Ham Park to relax in."

Our Local Guide:
Forest Gate

Osborne Road, Forest Gate — Stow Brothers

If you’ve already heard Chiwetel Ejiofor or Idris Elba proudly discussing their hometown, you probably don’t need us to convince you of Forest Gate’s merits, but for those who haven’t, let us catch you up…

With a heritage rooted in culture, it’s not surprising that Forest Gate has a strong creative community today. During just one week in the 60s, the Upper Cut Club music venue there hosted – deep breath – The Who, the Animals, the Spencer Davis Group, Geno Washington and Jimi Hendrix. These days you’re more likely to find the area’s artistic-types supping drinks in the cool cafes and bars. Along with the period property and proximity to green space, this independent scene has been the main draw for new arrivals to the area, although the fact that Forest Gate will be on the Crossrail’s Elizabeth line has definitely helped nudge people in the right direction.

Great Pubs

Wine bars, gastro pubs, microbrews, traditional boozers… With so many drinking establishments in Forest Gate, taking ‘a trip to the local’ can be a tricky decision. Burgess Hall Wines, The Cider House, The Holly Tree and Forest Gate Tavern are just a few of the places to choose between.

Plenty of period property

Forest Gate has an abundance of Victorian housing, ranging from terraces in the area dubbed ‘Forest Gate Village’ to semis and detached in the Woodgrange Estate conservation area. Whether you’re after a doer-upper or recently renovated period property, there should be something for your budget.
