a word from the owner...

"123 Odessa Road is a very special house and we have really enjoyed living here. The house itself has lovely high ceilings and the sun floods rooms with light, giving a very airy and spacious feel during the day. It is particularly beautiful on warm Autumnal afternoons. The house is easy to keep cool during the summer if desired, but holds the heat well through the winter time. It can be very cozy in the evenings. The garden is also unexpectedly large for this part of East London with a Lilac tree which offers some natural shade and looks fabulous in the spring. The soil is really fertile and we've had many successful fruit and vegetable crops plus a beautiful set of peonies that come back every year! There are lots of parks and play areas near to the house (including one on Odessa Road which is less than a minutes' walk away), offering great options for the children and we are in walking distance of Wild Goose bakery, the bars on Winchelsea Road, Wanstead Flats, Wanstead Park and Forest Gate stations, plus the numerous pubs around the area. The neighbours on this stretch of the road are all very friendly. It was meeting a friendly neighbour 10 years ago when viewing the property that encouraged us to buy it - they still live next door! We are in many ways sad to leave, but as a growing family we know that the house will give another owner many happy memories in the years to come."

Our Local Guide:
Forest Gate

Odessa Road, Forest Gate — Stow Brothers

If you’ve already heard Chiwetel Ejiofor or Idris Elba proudly discussing their hometown, you probably don’t need us to convince you of Forest Gate’s merits, but for those who haven’t, let us catch you up…

With a heritage rooted in culture, it’s not surprising that Forest Gate has a strong creative community today. During just one week in the 60s, the Upper Cut Club music venue there hosted – deep breath – The Who, the Animals, the Spencer Davis Group, Geno Washington and Jimi Hendrix. These days you’re more likely to find the area’s artistic-types supping drinks in the cool cafes and bars. Along with the period property and proximity to green space, this independent scene has been the main draw for new arrivals to the area, although the fact that Forest Gate is now on the Crossrail’s Elizabeth line has definitely helped nudge people in the right direction.
