a word from the owner...

"It's a wonderful place to live, I can be in the centre of London in 20 minutes in one direction or Epping forest in the other. The combination of having the Elizabeth line and the overground on your doorstep means there isn't really any part of the city that's difficult to get to. We have wonderful bars, bakery, and brewery all 5 minutes from our door as well as the Wanstead Flats. The neighbourhood itself is great, really friendly and great community spirit. Since the introduction of the LTN the area is very calm. The thing I will miss the most about our house is the garden, it sees the sun all day and the view of nothing but trees makes you completely forget that you live in a massive city. We expanded the house to make room for our family and we had every intention of raising our girl's in this house, we wouldn't have had any thoughts of living anywhere else in London. The opportunity to move to France was one we couldn't turn down but we will miss Forest Gate dearly. "

Our Local Guide:
Forest Gate

Odessa Road, Forest Gate — Stow Brothers

If you’ve already heard Chiwetel Ejiofor or Idris Elba proudly discussing their hometown, you probably don’t need us to convince you of Forest Gate’s merits, but for those who haven’t, let us catch you up…

With a heritage rooted in culture, it’s not surprising that Forest Gate has a strong creative community today. During just one week in the 60s, the Upper Cut Club music venue there hosted – deep breath – The Who, the Animals, the Spencer Davis Group, Geno Washington and Jimi Hendrix. These days you’re more likely to find the area’s artistic-types supping drinks in the cool cafes and bars. Along with the period property and proximity to green space, this independent scene has been the main draw for new arrivals to the area, although the fact that Forest Gate is now on the Crossrail’s Elizabeth line has definitely helped nudge people in the right direction.
