"We have lived in Odessa road for 8 years now and if we were not an expanding family we would be staying here! It is a lovely place to live with a thriving community and amazing neighbour's! Even a small garden area on the street that all the neighbour's chip in to upkeep in spring and summer! We are only a few minutes round the corner to the independent bakeries, breweries and yoga studios at the arches. The newly opened Elizabeth line is a total game changer! Only ten mins to the city, although I get to work in Bond St in 35min door to door! Wanstead flats, Wanstead Park and Forest Lane Park are a short walk away with the woodlands, lakes and open expanses which feel like you’re in the middle of the countryside- they even have cows grazing in the summer and one of the best bluebell displays in spring. Forest lane has 2 resident swans that the community look out for and every year we watch their babies hatch and then leave the nest! I love this flat for the amount of natural light that spills in and fills the rooms! It’s spacious with storage and that’s so important for us. We wish the next person to enjoy this space!"

If you’ve already heard Chiwetel Ejiofor or Idris Elba proudly discussing their hometown, you probably don’t need us to convince you of Forest Gate’s merits, but for those who haven’t, let us catch you up…

With a heritage rooted in culture, it’s not surprising that Forest Gate has a strong creative community today. During just one week in the 60s, the Upper Cut Club music venue there hosted – deep breath – The Who, the Animals, the Spencer Davis Group, Geno Washington and Jimi Hendrix. These days you’re more likely to find the area’s artistic-types supping drinks in the cool cafes and bars. Along with the period property and proximity to green space, this independent scene has been the main draw for new arrivals to the area, although the fact that Forest Gate is now on the Crossrail’s Elizabeth line has definitely helped nudge people in the right direction.
