a word from the owners...

"Beautiful views of the old 1861 hospital out the double floor-length corner windows from the lounge sofa, and seeing green trees from every window in every room of our home brightens my day. The strong 67mb fibre internet has kept me connected video calling from the study we converted the second bedroom into. There's an abundance of local nature spaces like Christchurch Green and playground, Memorial Garden, George Green, Eagle Pond, Hollow Pond, Wanstead Flats, Leyton Flats, Roding Valley Park, and Elmhurst Gardens. Being a 3 minute drive from the North Circular A406 is ideal for an Uber or for driving, combining nicely with our dedicated off-street parking space. Being 6 minutes walk from Snaresbrook and 13 minutes from Wanstead tubes means both branches of the Central Line are walkable, getting to Liverpool Street in 17 minutes. Independent shops line the Snaresbrook to Wanstead high street, where my favourites are bakeries like La Bakerie, butchers like Ginger Pig, cafés like Bear Brew and restaurants like the Michelin Guide's Provender. Enjoyable local pubs The Duke and The Cuckfield serve excellent Sunday food. The large monthly market brings out the community (as does the active Facebook group). Parents have a choice of 10 'Good' and 'Outstanding' primary and secondary schools, all less than a mile on foot. Including good local nurseries and pre-schools like Montessori, and outstanding schools like Nightingale Primary pepper the neighbourhood."

Our Local Guide:

Makepeace Road, Wanstead — Stow Brothers

Thanks to its royal connections and grand properties, Wanstead has previously been compared to the likes of Twickenham and Richmond, although East Londoners are quick to point out that it has plenty enough merits of its own.

For a start, despite its villagey feel, it’s proudly nestled within London’s most creative quadrant and only a short hop on the Central line from the bright lights of the City. There’s also an abundance of green space – Wanstead Flats, Epping Forest, Wanstead Park and Chalet Wood, with the seasonal display of bluebells in the latter just calling out for an accompanying picnic from one of the well-stocked local delis or cafes. But that’s not to say that Wanstead’s charming pubs and restaurants aren’t delightful to look at themselves – it’ll be deciding which to go for that’s the problem.
