a word from the owner...

"Living in a Victorian home gave us a real appreciation of architecture. We loved the original woodwork so much we had all the paint stripped from the doors, door frames and wherever else possible so it could be properly appreciated. The house has been interior designed to celebrate the original features and materials used when it was first built. Our family are very proud to have lived in this area all our lives. Forest Gate has a very healthy mix of people from all backgrounds and growing up here made us and all our friends very open minded and culturally informed individuals. Having acres of open green space close by like Wanstead Flats where we was able to learn sports, do other recreational activities (bike riding, feeding the ducks) and appreciate nature even though we lived in the city was great when we were kids and is still great now that we’re adults… Especially for jogging and keeping fit. Being only a couple stops away from Stratford and Liverpool Street, transport was always good but now that the crossrail has arrived it’s even better. Woodgrange Road (the High Street) has everything we need and now with the regeneration and new buildings going up it will have even more. It’s a very exciting time for the area."

Forest Gate

Hampton Road, Forest Gate — Stow Brothers

If you’ve already heard Chiwetel Ejiofor or Idris Elba proudly discussing their hometown, you probably don’t need us to convince you of Forest Gate’s merits, but for those who haven’t, let us catch you up…

With a heritage rooted in culture, it’s not surprising that Forest Gate has a strong creative community today. During just one week in the 60s, the Upper Cut Club music venue there hosted – deep breath – The Who, the Animals, the Spencer Davis Group, Geno Washington and Jimi Hendrix. These days you’re more likely to find the area’s artistic-types supping drinks in the cool cafes and bars. Along with the period property and proximity to green space, this independent scene has been the main draw for new arrivals to the area, although the fact that Forest Gate will be on the Crossrail’s Elizabeth line has definitely helped nudge people in the right direction.
