Stratford — Stow Brothers

Welcome to Stratford

A decade on from the London Olympics, Stratford has become home to one of the world’s largest cultural districts, East Bank. Universities UCL and UAL’s London College of Fashion are set to join the BBC, Sadler’s Wells and the soon-to-open V&A. Transport-wise, it’s incredibly well connected, and the mall is as convienient as they come.

Stratford — Stow Brothers

Given it’s been almost a decade since the Olympic torch touched down in Stratford, it’s probably time to let this part of East London shine on its own. It truly is a destination in its own right, with a multitude of restaurants, bars and pubs cropping up in the area, and that’s before we’ve even mentioned one of the largest shopping centres in Europe. Yep, Westfield might draw most visitors to the area, but Stratford’s Market Village is a hidden gem and where you’ll get a true flavour of the community.

Of course, we do have to acknowledge the legacy of the London 2012 Games and the regeneration it brought to the area, including the soon to be opened East Bank. With the former Olympic venues open to the public, residents have an incredibly advanced sport and fitness facilities, while the ArcelorMittal Orbit, the world’s longest helter skelter, is quite literally Stratford’s standout feature.

A word from our Stratford area expert…

I spend a lot of time in Stratford — running in the Olympic park, cycling at the outdoor Velo Park, shopping at Westfield or simply meeting friends. The area has come on leaps and bounds since the Olympics, with the new Olympic Village creating loads of amenities, green spaces, sports facilities … and not least Westfield, which is a must for shoppers and foodies.

Allegra, a sensational seafood restaurant on the seventh floor of The Stratford hotel would be my not-so secret pick, fantastic food, and a stunning roof terrace. For a lazy Sunday brunch, try The Breakfast Club along the canal at Here East. Well-connected and with world-class amenities, Stratford is an area to watch.

Transport links

Stratford’s quite the hub. With the launch of the Crossrail, it is now on the Elizabeth line, while high-speed trains already travel between Stratford International and Ashford. The Overground runs to North London, while the Jubilee line and DLR go to Canary Wharf. Finally, London Underground’s Central line nips to the West End.

Vibrant shopping district

What can’t you get in Stratford? It really is a shopper’s delight, with everything from the luxury boutiques, high street retailers and department stores at Westfield Stratford, to the essential shops and market stalls within the Stratford Centre, and the independent stores of the East Village.

Recent regeneration/Post-Olympics

A key aim for the successful London 2012 Games bid was the wider regeneration of the area, which has resulted in one of the world’s largest cultural districts, East Bank. Universities UCL and UAL’s London College of Fashion will join the BBC, Sadler’s Wells and the V&A, opening 2022-2023.
