As part of our on-going commitment to our community, we will be sharing the latest news, events and interesting stories coming from the local people, businesses and places within Walthamstow, Wanstead, and surrounding areas.
The “Walthamstow Squash Academy” is a fun local youth sports project for ages 5-16 girls and boys, to motivate and inspire them to have a healthier, more confident and more social lifestyle. The discipline of squash which is played on an indoor court with two players, means children learn to read their opponents moves and pre-empt the next shot.
This requires concentration, self-control, slightness of movement, racket control. While having fun, young people are trained to build up the right mental approach to achieve these skills and enjoy the winning and losing that comes with playing a sport. Tenacity, drive and self-motivation are key life skills our children develop.
Being coached in small groups ensures players get to know each other have fun and build up friendships, as well as getting maximum coaching time. Having limited numbers at a time also ensures health and safety on court, which is our top priority. There is a clear but subtle progression path for youngsters, from when they can start at the age of 5 (reception), through 8 different levels, marked by fun progress awards.
The Academy, which is hosted by the Walthamstow Cricket, Tennis and Squash Club on Greenway Avenue, reaches out to local children, in local schools and offers them fun opportunities to learn a new sport, key skills and take part in local, regional and county competitions, at a cost that is in keeping with local circumstances. This Academy is first of its kind in East London and is approved by England Squash. We have 6 England Squash Coaches, two of whom are female and have a good mix of boys and girls in the Academy.
Stow Brothers have been key in supporting this local sports initiative. They have provided our kids with squash kits, which helps to create a sense of team spirit in the Academy and they have provided sponsorship which is helping us with a range of marketing opportunities that would not have otherwise have been possible on our limited budget.

"Thanks so much to the Stow Brothers for helping me sell my property and getting a great price in a wobbly market. I had a very good offer on my property within 4 days of the advertisement going up and have successfully sold. Will Turner in particular helped with my sale, was clear and open about the buyers' needs and maintained clear communication throughout, both with me and with my solicitors, alerting me when there were potentially problems. I would recommend Stow Brothers and Will wholeheartedly. "
